Query Letter Review
for Fiction Writers
Pitch Perfect
and get noticed
Letβs set your book up for success
Youβve been through draft after draft of your manuscript and polished your prose, and now youβre ready to see your book on store shelves. But thereβs one crucial thing your manuscript needs: a well-written query letter.
The query letter is your gateway to traditional publishingβthe one-chance pitch that entices a literary agent to request your beloved manuscript and start reading.
To put your best foot forward, you need to write a query letter that stands out, follows a specific format, and impresses and intrigues an agent. (No small feat, I know!)
When youβve already invested so much of yourself in your book, it can be tempting to think that the work speaks for itself. But youβve come too far to sell your work short by sending a query letter thatβs not the best possible reflection of your book.
Iβm here to walk you through it.
For your book to be traditionally published, you need to write a compelling query letter. Thereβs just no way around it, and it requires you to think about your book in a different way. Your book is a creative work of art, yes, but to a literary agent, it is also a product to be sold.
Most writers I work with are wrestling with one (or more) of these concerns:
βHow can I possibly summarize my entire novel in one page?β
Youβve spent months (or years) building a rich, layered story. Distilling it to a few hundred words can feel overwhelming, even impossible. Iβll help you identify the true spine of your story and shape a pitch that captures both the plot and the emotional stakes, so your query feels focused, compelling, and true to your book.
βWhat if my query sounds flat, even though my book isnβt?β
A common fearβand a valid one. A query letter is a different skill than writing a novel, and many strong manuscripts are held back by pitches that donβt fully convey their appeal. Iβll help you sharpen your hook, elevate your language, and bring the energy of your story onto the page.
βIβve revised this so many timesβ¦I canβt tell whatβs working anymore.β
When youβre too close to your own query letter, itβs challenging to see it clearly. (As a writer myself, I know!) I offer thoughtful, objective feedback that cuts through the noise, so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.
βIβm worried about getting it wrong and ruining my chances.β
Querying can feel high-stakes because, in many ways, it is. You donβt need perfection, but you do need a query that puts your book its best possible light. Iβll help you avoid common pitfalls and position your work professionally, so you can query with confidence instead of second-guessing every sentence.
And if writing your query letter feels harder than writing the book itself, youβre not doing anything wrong. Youβre stepping into a different kind of writingβand Iβm here to help.
Query letter review
A captivating query letter is what unlocks the process of getting your book published.
When you work with me as your query letter editor, youβll receive extensive notes within your document that break down the key elements of your letterβpitch, comps, bio, and hookβalong with revision suggestions and clear next steps. My query letter review isnβt a one-and-done process. After you receive my feedback, you can revise your letter and resubmit for a second pass.
A query letter review is:
β> a professional look at your letter with an eye toward what agents and editors respond to, so you can revise with clarity and direction, not guesswork.
A query letter review isnβt:
β> a promise of publication, but a strategic step toward giving your book the strongest possible introduction.
Hereβs how it works
Review
Iβll read your query letter with a professional, industry-aware lens. As I go, Iβll leave thoughtful margin commentsβhighlighting where your pitch is working, where it may be falling short, and where thereβs an opportunity to strengthen clarity, stakes, or structure. (Because knowing what to keep is just as important as knowing what to change.)

Youβll leave this process with a sense of optimism that youβre putting your best foot forward. My feedback is designed to show off your storyβs unique hook your story in a unique way while give you language you can carry with youβinto pitches, conversations, and future projects.
Just a few of the authors
who make it all worthwhileβ¦
Jackieβs feedback on my query letter was indispensable. Her comments and thoughts were constructive but encouraging. Ultimately, she helped shape my letter into something I can feel proud to submit to agents. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone!
-Emily B.
I hired Jackie to help me with my query letter and synopsis so I would feel more confident about the querying process. She not only completed the work very quickly, but also gave very straightforward, actionable advice to improve what I had. I really appreciated that her offer included a second pass after making changes, and her second review was as thorough and thoughtful as the first. Her extensive industry experience made me feel I was in good hands. I'd definitely hire her again.

Hello there, Iβm Jackieβ¦
the editor who can help you polish your query letter.
A strong query letter requires a different mind set than writing a novel or memoir, so itβs no wonder so many writers struggle with the process. It also requires a certain amount of distance from your own work, and thatβs where I come in.
My approach combines professional, industry-aware feedback with thoughtful encouragement. Iβm here to help you refine your pitch, clarify your story, and feel genuinely confident pressing βsend.β
Youβll come away with a clear, actionable feedback that strengthens your pitch while preserving your voice.
